Selling to Dorset County Council
This page contains useful sources of information about how Dorset County Council works with its suppliers and providers.
We wish to develop effective relationships with suppliers/providers, both large and small, private and voluntary: the development of the local supply chain is fundamental to achieving our objectives in respect of strengthening our communities.
Further information can be obtained from Business Link Wessex (opens in a new window), who offer free resources to help organisations win public sector contracts.
The county council has adopted a Concordat for Small Medium Sized Enterprises [98kb] (opens in a new window) as a guide to the way in which it does business with small/medium enterprises. We have also produced a 3rd Sector Commissioning & Procurement Rationale & Framework [102kb] (opens in a new window) guidance document.
Dorset County Council's corporate procurement unit, Dorset Procurement, lets contracts for a wide range of goods and services for the county council, but also uses many of the contract arrangements organised by the Central Buying Consortium (CBC) (opens in a new window), of which Dorset County Council is a member.
In addition there are other collaborative arrangements that the county council is able to take advantage of including arrangements made by other local authorities or Central Government agencies e.g. Office of Government Commerce (OGC).
Dorset County Councils purchase order terms and conditions [21kb] (opens in a new window) have been published to provide clear guidelines to suppliers. Please contact Dorset Procurement if you have any queries regarding this document.
To help potential suppliers/contractors find out about our contracts and tendering procedures the following page explains how to tender for contracts, the restrictions we work under, and what is expected of you when undertaking work for the council.
- Tender procedures
The tendering process for goods, services and works can be complex and lengthy. Unless your company has been accepted onto an approved list of suppliers then all other tendering procedures will normally involve two stages.
