Support for children including those with special educational needs
Inclusion Services provide a range of appropriate support for children in Dorset schools, including services for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
The ultimate aim is a fully inclusive society where all children and young people are valued and included and where they have a secure sense of belonging.
Inclusion values and includes all children through building structures in society that:
- Value and celebrate difference and diversity
- Promote equality and tackle discrimination
- Value and recognise the contribution of all young people
- Welcome increased inclusion because it has benefits for everyone.
- Special Educational Needs (SEN)
How children and young people with special educational needs are included in Dorset schools with appropriate support where needed.
- Behaviour Support Service (BSS)
BSS exists to support schools, their pupils and parents in the promotion of positive behaviour.

Children Out of School Service (COOSS)
The Children Out of School Service (COOSS) makes educational provision for those children who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to attend school.
- County Psychological Service (CPS)
Educational psychologists work with families, schools and other members of the children's workforce to address the five outcomes of Every Child Matters (ECM).
- Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS)
Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) works to ensure equal opportunities in education for all ethnic minority and travelling groups within the authority.
- Hearing and Vision Support Service
This service supports children and young people who have a hearing or vision impairment.

Portage Pre-school Learning Support
Portage Pre-school Learning Support Service offers regular specialist support to children who may have special educational needs and their families, as well as to Early Years practitioners.

Special Educational Needs Specialist Service (SENSS)
SENSS provides specialist professional support to schools in respect of specific learning difficulties.
