Trainee Ranger Scheme
Fancy a job outdoors? This scheme offers you the chance to gain 12 months paid work experience while working towards a qualification in environmental conservation at Kingston Maurward College.
The Trainee Ranger Scheme offers people the chance to gain valuable experience and qualifications to help them take that first step into a career in countryside management.
The scheme is managed in partnership with Kingston Maurward College and South Somerset Rangers Service and this summer we will be offering several positions across Dorset and South Somerset. There are also positions available with Bournemouth Borough Council, please use the link to

to find out more. The apprentices spend 12 months working alongside one of the rangers, while working towards a work based Diploma at
Kingston Maurward College (opens in a new window)

As well as gaining a Diploma, you will also work towards an apprenticeship in Environmental Conservation, Trainee Rangers will receive formal training in the use of brush cutters and first aid. In-house training is given on various topics including rights of way law, interpretation and wildlife identification.

- On the Job Facts
Trainee Rangers in Dorset Countryside are treated like a normal member of staff and would be required to work within the same protocols of the organisation.
- Level 2 Environmental Conservation Diploma
As part of the Trainee Ranger scheme all candidates are required to complete the Level 2 Diploma in work, based in Environmental Conservation. This is a vocational qualification which will give you the basic practical skills and knowledge to work in countryside management.
