Dorset-wide Gypsy and Traveller (including Travelling Showpeople) site allocations joint development plan document

Latest news - the consultation period has now closed. All consultation and background documents are available on the Useful Information page. Next Steps - The Dorset Councils will now consider the responses received and will use them to help develop a draft Development Plan Document (DPD) during 2012. The draft DPD will then be made available for further public consultation. The Councils are also working together to develop and finalise a timetable with details of these next stages and will make this available on the website.

The following councils are working together to prepare a joint Development Plan Document (DPD):

The aim of the DPD is to allocate appropriate permanent and transit sites for Gypsies and Travellers and Travelling Showpeople within Dorset for the next 15 years.

This is in order to meet the needs identified by the Dorset Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment that was commissioned by Dorset councils in 2007.

The DPD is being put together on behalf of all the councils by consultants Baker Associates . The current timetable set out in the Project Plan predicts that it will take between two and three years for it to be adopted.

Local communities, landowners, businesses and organisations will have opportunities to have their say throughout the process.

You can find a range of information about the process on the pages below.
