UK Youth Parliament

UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) is a national organisation which campaigns on issues that affect young people. All Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) are young people aged 11 to 18, which are elected by young people aged 11 to 18 on an annual basis.

2010 Elections

This year, three MYP's and three Deputy MYPs have been elected and 13226 young people voted in the Dorset election, which included:

  • 18 Secondary Schools
  • 11 Middle Schools
  • Five Learning centres
  • Five Special Schools
  • One College

The election was organised in partnership with the Dorset Electoral Administrators Group, to ensure the process was as close as possible to a real election. Young people voted for the two candidates they thought could be MYPs - but only one vote could be for a candidate at their school.

At a special ceremony at County Hall on 11 February, the winners were announced. The three elected members of the UKYP for Dorset are:

Ben Tubbs Ferndown Upper School - 4548 votes

Elouise Mitchell Royal Manor Arts College in Portland - 3414 votes

Tom Easterbrook Dorchester Middle school - 3307 Votes

They will be supported by three deputy MYPs:

Imogen Barnard Woodruff school - 2047 votes

Moya Dunn Ferndown Middle school - 1666 votes

Tom Summerbell Gryphon School - 1586 votes

They will take part in the annual sitting and regional meetings, supporting UK Youth Parliament with its manifesto and campaigns. There is a proposed trip to the European Parliament in Brussels.

All six members will continue to work very closely Dorset Youth Council, known as DYCE (Dorset Youth Council Enables). To continue the good work of our previous MYP's and Deputies.
