Proposals for a waste management facility in the Bridport area
Dorset County Council is putting forward proposals to develop an integrated waste management centre in Bridport.
For background information see the planning reports.
The proposals are for a modern, clean and efficient household recycling centre and waste transfer station.
The new facility would be sensitively designed and built using the latest technology and managed to meet strict Environment Agency standards to ensure that issues such as odour, dust and vermin do not arise.
The county council has been looking for many years at sites in and around Bridport and as part of the preparation for a planning application a full assessment of all possible sites is ongoing. This will include a formal consultation process once an application is submitted.
Bridport's present household recycling centre has been operating on a temporary basis out of a cramped town centre site and cannot meet the demand of local people. The present planning consent expires in August 2010, and a further application to extend the consent for an additional three years will be submitted.
The transfer station will provide a central base for refuse and recycling trucks to use so that recyclate and waste can be bulked up and transported to other locations – saving many return trips to the east of the county.
More information days are due to take place before any planning application is submitted.
