Living in Dorset
Dorset's a fantastic place to live - but it's not all country lanes and thatched cottages. We have beautiful countryside and a stunning coastline so if you love the great outdoors this is the perfect place for you.
We have world-class sailing waters – the sailing events for the London 2012 Olympics will be hosted in Weymouth and Portland – and a whole range of other watersports are available for you to enjoy. Or you might take advantage of our rural setting for relaxing walks or more active leisure activities.
As a busy tourist area with fabulous beaches, we also have loads of attractions for all the family – everything from Monkey World and the Abbotsbury Swannery to the Swanage steam railway and fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast.
You're not far away from bigger towns and cities like Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton. There are good rail links to London and beyond; flights to an increasing number of destinations are available from Bournemouth International Airport; and we're just a ferry hop away from the Channel Islands and France.
Once you've settled in Dorset you won't want to leave. To find out more, take a look at our tourism pages.
