South East Dorset Joint Study Area Reports
To assist in the preparation of the Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West, the Regional Assembly commissioned the development of a series of joint study area or sub-regional strategies. One such strategy was for South East Dorset.
The joint study area covered the South East Dorset conurbation, from Highcliffe in the east to Wareham in the west, and northwards to embrace Verwood.
The strategy was prepared by Bournemouth Borough Council, Dorset County Council and the Borough of Poole. First detailed proposals for the area were prepared, together with the technical justification for them. The proposals and technical reports may be downloaded from this page.
The work was not done in isolation. It involved close working with other stakeholders, including the district councils, the South West Regional Development Agency, the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Economic Partnership (BDPEP), Natural England, the Environment Agency, the Housing Corporation and health sector representatives. There was a period of public consultation on the vision, growth options and broad spatial options during December 2004 and January 2005.
