West Dorset - How to pay council tax

We provide the following ways to pay your council tax.

Payments must be made in accordance with your council tax bill. In the event of late payment, a reminder notice may be issued. Legislation allows for a maximum of only two reminders to be issued in any financial year. After this, the remaining balance for the year becomes payable in full.

Direct debit

If you are a new council tax payer you will have received a direct debit instruction with your bill. If you wish to pay by direct debit, please complete this form and return it to us by post.

Alternatively, if you are a new or existing council tax payer and you would like to pay by direct debit, you have the following options:

Direct debit is the simplest and most convenient way to pay. There are no cheques to write, no cash to deal with and no ongoing paperwork because payments are made for you by your bank or building society. You will always remain in control of your payments, as we will notify you at least ten working days before any change to your payments. You are guaranteed a full and immediate refund by your bank in the unlikely event of an error and you are free to cancel the direct debit instruction at any time.

The council offers a choice of dates for payment of council tax by direct debit.

Online

You can pay online (opens in a new window) with a credit or debit card.

Please note that there is a 2.5% service charge on credit card payments. There is no charge for payment by debit card.
