Apply for a school place
Guidance on how to apply for a school place and which application form to complete.
Applications received in July/August
Applications received at this stage in the term and over the summer holidays are unlikely to be processed before the start of term. The school admissions team aims to process these by the 11 September. As soon as a decision has been made, they will be in touch with you to advise on the outcome.
Which type of application?
If your child will be moving up to junior, middle, secondary or upper school next September, or if your child was born between 01/09/10 and 31/08/11 and is due to start school for the first time next September.
If you would like to move to a Dorset school part way through the school year or in September but not in the starting year group for that school.
Special Educational Needs
If your child has an individual Education, Health and Care Plan (formerly known as a Statement of Special Educational Needs (pdf, 18kb) (opens in a new window)), please do not complete any of the forms displayed on this page. Contact the Special Educational Needs Team, who will deal with your child's continued education and who can advise of the next steps.
If you wish to be on a waiting list for the school/s you have been refused or wishing to renew your place on the waiting list you should complete the Waiting List Form (word, 105kb) (opens in a new window)/ Waiting List Form (pdf, 156kb) (opens in a new window)
If any place/s become available at the school you have been refused, any current applications, along with anybody on the waiting list and pending appeals will be considered for the place. Places are not allocated on a first come first served basis but will be allocated in accordance with the oversubscription cirtiera according to the Admission Policy for the school.
As the waiting list can change on frequent basis we request that you do not telephone to find out your place.
Will I get my preferred school?
We aim to provide a school place at your highest preference wherever possible. However, there is no guarantee that you will get your preferred school. Even if you move into the catchment area the school may already be full. We advise all parents and guardians to consider naming more than one preference. Contact the school admissions team to discuss availability, check your catchment school or if you need additional information.
