Weymouth and Portland Crematorium

The Bereavement Services Division of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council is located at Weymouth Crematorium, Quibo Lane, Weymouth.

Opening times

The chapel is open for private prayer from:

 

  • Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm when no service is in progress

The Book of Remembrance is situated in a room to the rear of the cloisters and is open from:

  • Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm, and on weekends and Bank Holidays 10am to 4pm

 

About the crematorium

Weymouth Crematorium was opened in 1939 and occupies a 6-acre site shared with Weymouth Cemetery.

The crematorium chapel at Weymouth seats approximately 100 mourners and is equipped with an electronic organ and audio equipment for playing compact discs (CDs). An induction loop system is installed for the hard of hearing.

The chapel is on a single level, giving easy access for wheelchairs and if required a wheelchair is available. A member of staff will be available to offer assistance required. It is your right to hold a service defining the type of music and ceremony that you would like.

Any aspect of the service may be discussed in advance with members of staff at the Weymouth Crematorium office who will be happy to assist you.

  • Cemeteries

    Bereavement Services provide burial facilities at four cemeteries.

  • Gardens of Remembrance

    Gardens of Remembrance are located at the Weymouth Crematorium and the Portland Cemetery. The gardens at the Portland Cemetery offer the facilities for cremated remains to be scattered and a Portland Stone Memorial Plaque affixed to the wall of remembrance within the garden.

  • Guiding Principles for Burial and Cremation Services

    All cremation and burial facilities shall be managed with competence and efficiency, to ensure that the entire bereavement experience occurs without error or insensitivity, and meets the religious, secular, ethnic and cultural needs of the bereaved. The service shall comply with all statutory and Health and Safety requirements.

  • Support and Bereavement Service

    The Bereavement Services Section also forms part of the unit with a team of staff based at the crematorium in Quibo Lane. The council operates the Weymouth crematorium and four cemeteries located in Portland, Wyke Regis and Weymouth.
